History of Larocque’s Blue Demon Lodge

The lodge’s original owners, the Burnham family, began operating Burnham’s Camp in the 1940’s. In the early and mid 70’s, Lloyd, Lyse and Joël spent most of their leisure time behind River Valley, fishing or hunting. Lloyd knew the territory quite well. As a young boy, he had worked with his father in many of the lumber camps in the area. Of course, he had spent much of his spare time on the numerous lakes and on the logging roads where he learned a lot about fishing and hunting. In 1978, Lloyd and Lyse purchased Burnham’s Camp and named it Blue Demon Lodge. A miner and a teacher’s dream had become reality; they were now tourist operators.
For 31 years, Lloyd lived his dream with his wife, Lyse, and his two sons, Joël and Jean-Gilles. Then, in the spring of 2008, Lloyd lost his battle against cancer. In the spring of 2009, a totem pole was erected in his honour. The totem pole faces the picturesque lake Manitou on which Lloyd spent many hours guiding guests or fishing with family and friends. As a legacy to Lloyd, the family changed the business’s name to Larocque’s Blue Demon Lodge.

The lodge has a long history of rendering memorable vacations to fishermen, hunters, families, and friends, because Lloyd believed in his fellow man, and treated everyone with respect. He showed an interest and remembered what was important to his guests. And so, the tradition continues at Larocque’s Blue Demon Lodge.
